Teaching with songs

Angels - Robbie Williams

Listen to the song and fill in the gaps

I sit and wait
Does an angel contemplate my _________ ( destiny )
And do they know
The places _________ we go
When we're ________ ( an adj.) and _________ ( = young )
'Cause I've _______ ( past participle: be) told
That salvation lets their wings ___________ ( = fold )

So when I'm _________ ( put your body in a resting position) in my bed
___________ ( ideas produced by thinking ) running through my head
And I feel that love is __________ ( not alive )
I'm loving angels instead.

Chorus
And through it all
she _________ ( proposes) me protection
A lot of ________ ( = hate ) and __________ ( kindness )
Whether I'm _________ ( write / right ) or __________ ( not correct )

And down the waterfall
____________ it may take me
I know that life _________ (want / won't) break me
When I come to call, she won't __________ ( abandon ) me
I'm loving angels instead.

When I'm feeling __________ ( = strong )
And my ________ ( suffering ) walks down a one way street
I _________ above
And I know I'll always _____ ___________ with love
And as the feeling _________ ( increases )
She breathes _______ (the skin of the human body) to my _________ ( hard parts that form the skeleton)
And when love is _________ ( not alive )
I'm loving angels instead

Chorus
And through it all she _________ ( proposes) me protection
A lot of ________ ( = hate ) and __________ ( kindness )
Whether I'm _________ ( write / right ) or __________ ( not correct )
And down the waterfall
____________ it may take me

I know that life _________ (want / won't) break me
When I come to call she won't ___________ (abandon) me
I'm loving angels instead
Repeat chorus

  1. Congratulations mate! What an amazing activity! I think that you hit the nail on the head with this activity. It is very motivating because it is possible to relate the knowledge the students have of the English subject with their musical tastes. It is not the same to listen on song from the typical CDs which the publishers include in the book than listening one Robbie Williams’ song.

  2. Well done!! I think it is a very good activity to learn English. Children like song and they know Robbie Williams so they will pay attention and they will practise listening.

  3. Hello Miriam, congratulations for your new blog. I think you have done your best in this task, because the song is well-known, and the children could find it motivating to do a "fill-in the gap" activity with a pop song. You have selected the proper words to be deleted. Anyway, I would like to give you and advice: as teachers, we need to know which content and skill are we going to work with the activity, so it would be great if you could give more information in the headlines.
    Thanks for sharing your work.
    Regards,

  4. Hello,

This activity you've shared with us, is very intuitive and will help improve vocabulary. The presentation is very good. Singing, apart from learning, motivates us. I still remember a song I learned as a child in English. It works listening skills, oral skills as well.
    Thanks for sharing with us.

    A greeting.
